The MLK Center is a symbol of Dr. King who, in 1968, visited and spoke in Rockville Centre a few days before he was assassinated. The Center opened in 1971 to provide the residents of the West End a place they could call their own. The dream was to create a place of support and resources for low-income minority residents, a place to give hope to a disenfranchised community.

Today, the MLK Center hosts academic, social, and support programs for youth, teens, adults, seniors, and the entire community. It is a place to learn about our shared culture, a place that provides jobs and other programs to the community, and a safe haven from the streets for children and young people.
