What does the RVC Friends of MLK do?

Since our creation in 2020, we have focused most of our support on the children in the community. In the future, we envision working with our seniors, teenagers, and everyone in between. If we can dream it, we can make it a reality!

Our Library

We have set ourselves the goal of building a library of children’s and Young Adult books by Black authors. Our dream is to have the biggest collection on Long Island. We want our kids to have access to the whole world through literature.

Chef Academy

Kids learn how to create a meal and go on to enjoy it together. Professional chefs join Ms. Sharon and Ms. Karen as they share their love of cooking and community with the children.

Photography

The children are given cameras and encouraged to look around their world and take pictures of what interests and inspires them. The photographs are proudly displayed at our Community Day Art Show.

Art

Every year, we select a professional artist whose work we believe will inspire the children. This year Reginald Laurent was our inspiration, and the work the children produced was fantastic!
